The Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss (also known as the Western Pure Land, Sukhavati) is the Buddha-land of Amitabha Buddha (Buddha of Infinite Life). Its core characteristic is the absence of all suffering, only pure happiness, a stark contrast to our Saha world (the world of suffering). It is located to the west of our world, a distance of ten trillion Buddha-lands (see the Amitabha Sutra for details). The principal Buddha is Amitabha Buddha (Infinite Light, Infinite Life), who constantly preaches the Dharma; flanked by Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva and Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva, collectively known as the "Three Saints of the West." The environment is adorned with the seven treasures, pure and flawless. The earth is made of gold, flat, soft, bright, and clean, without mountains, rivers, ravines, thorns, or rocks. Seven-jeweled ponds and water possessing eight virtues: The ponds are filled with seven jeweled materials (gold, silver, lapis lazuli, crystal, tridacna shell, red pearl, and agate). The water possesses eight virtues: sweetness, coolness, softness, lightness, clarity, fragrance, thirst-quenching, and nourishment of the mind. The pool's bottom is covered with golden sand, and its banks are adorned with seven-jeweled steps. Lotuses in the pool are as large as cartwheels, radiating light of blue, yellow, red, and white. Architecture: Seven-jeweled pavilions, palaces, and lecture halls float in the air, their size changing at will, translucent and crystalline, far surpassing the celestial realm. Jeweled Trees and Celestial Music: Seven rows of trees, seven layers of railings, and seven layers of nets, all made of the four precious materials. A gentle breeze rustles the trees and nets, producing subtle Dharma sounds, like hundreds of thousands of musical instruments playing simultaneously, naturally guiding listeners to contemplate the Three Jewels: Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. Climate and Rain: There is no distinction between hot and cold, no calamities of wind and rain; the climate is always mild and comfortable. Mandala flowers fall from the sky six times a day and night, fragrant and colorful. Wondrous Birds: White cranes, peacocks, parrots, kalavinkas, etc., are all manifestations of Amitabha Buddha, emitting harmonious calls, proclaiming the Dharma. Sentient Beings: No suffering, only joy, and immeasurable lifespan. Rebirth: All beings are born from lotuses in the Seven Treasure Pond, not born of parents, and are free from the suffering of birth, old age, sickness, and death. Appearance: All have bodies of pure purple-gold, majestic and sublime, resembling Amitabha Buddha; possessing five supernatural powers: divine eye, divine ear, telepathy, knowledge of past lives, and supernatural speed, free and unhindered. Lifespan: Enduring countless eons, nearly eternal, without the worry of premature death or aging. Nature: All are supremely virtuous beings, free from greed, anger, ignorance, jealousy, or conflict; compassionate, egalitarian, wise, and pure, constantly hearing the Dharma. Life: Food and clothing arise naturally, requiring no labor; in the morning, they can travel to ten trillion Buddha-lands to make offerings to Buddhas and return at mealtime. Time and Space: Infinite and eternal. Time: Without day and night, without years and months, eternal happiness; this world does not experience the evolution of formation, existence, decay, and emptiness. Space: Vast and boundless, even accommodating all beings in the ten directions without ever being crowded; a single grain of dust can contain three thousand great chiliocosms.
